除了履歷外，有些雇主也要求你附上英文求職信(cover letter)。何謂求職信？簡單的說，求職信只要你回答一個問題：為什麼你勝任想應徵的工作？或者，為什麼用人主管要給你面試機會？這就是它的目的。
要擺什麼內容？
雇主想知道為什麼你對他們的職缺感興趣，還有，你為什麼勝任。所以，求職信內容可以包括以下幾點：
- 「專業技能」或「成就」。描述你的和應徵職位相關的經歷、訓練或貢獻等。
- 「人格特質」或其他「職場技能」。描述你的做人處事、應對進退、協調、合群、決策、基本運算、推理、表達等能力。
- 「專研的領域」或「理想雇主」的條件，但這點不是必要的。
怎麼下筆？
上面每一點各佔一段，外加第一段的目的和最後一段的結尾，整份求職信可以走五段或四段(扣掉非必要的第三點)結構，但建議你不要少於四段。
第一段：表示對某個職缺的興趣
原文：
My name is Pi Ng. I am delighted to apply for the position of full-time veterinarian at your rapidly growing veterinary clinic. I am a recent veterinary graduate from Top University.
修改：
I am a recent veterinary graduate from Top University and wish to apply for the full-time veterinarian position at your veterinary clinic.
說明：
正式書信一開始不需要指名道姓，你的全名出現的位置在信尾。
減少不必要形容詞和副詞等修飾字的使用。例如，”I am delighted to…,” ”…at your rapidly growing...”。
第一段盡量壓在兩句內完成，讓讀者焦點擺在中間段。
第二段：你的「專業技能」或「成就」
原文：
Throughout the veterinary course I arranged and enjoyed my placements with good range of varieties and also practiced, drilled and applied the knowledge and skills learned in University. Among my placements, I enjoyed the most was the workshop and the [dairy] farmers’ gathering where I could obtain the first-hand information regarding both individual and regional farmers’ need by chatting with them and discussed the details and possible solutions with the supervising vets.
修改：
During my undergraduate veterinary training, I experienced a wide range of clinical placements, and the experience was rewarding. I was able to apply the classroom knowledge and acquire hands-on skills. It was also great to chat with dairy farmers and learn about their concerns first hand, and brainstorm with the attending veterinarians for possible solutions. The in-house training and the field trips have largely boosted my clinical confidence.
說明：
- 作者用兩個長句，不易閱讀的。改寫成四個長短混合句，增加可讀性。
- 避免用一個以上的動詞接同樣的受詞。例如，”…arranged and enjoyed my placements…,” “…also practiced, drilled and applied the knowledge…”。
- 劃線部分為增加的內容，目的是凸顯徵人啟事裡的關鍵字。
- 沒有太多工作但有實習經驗的學生，可以參考類似寫法，強調你的實習內容和收穫。
- 有工作經驗的朋友，你有相關的成就、專案、經驗或專業證照用人主管會感興趣的嗎?
